If you want to understand a culture, you have to understand their customs and celebrations. That's why it is such an honor to be asked to participate in special event like the Independence Day Parade in La Esperanza.
The students and teachers of Oasis Institute, where we host our mobile library program called Lucy's Libros, invited us to join in the 198th birthday celebration of our adopted home. Not only did we get to march surrounded by the pageantry and beautiful displays of patriotism, Steve even got to lead the "little soldiers" in a marching routine.
