From Potlucks to Playtime

In 2018, thanks to the generous support of our donors, we were able to purchase tables and chairs for our ministry here in rural Honduras. Little did we know how these simple pieces of furniture would become a source of joy and connection for our community over the years. Last week, our tables and chairs embarked on a whirlwind adventure, serving as the backdrop for fellowship, celebration and play.

The week kicked off with a unique event—a potluck at a local church celebrating their 6th anniversary. Potlucks aren't common in Honduras, so it was a special occasion to see the church family gather around our tables, sharing a meal and laughter together. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and gratitude as they enjoyed this rare opportunity for communal dining.

Next up, our tables and chairs played host to a Thanksgiving dinner for missionaries in our area. While Thanksgiving isn't a holiday celebrated in Honduras, it was a chance for these missionaries to experience a taste of home. Hosted by another couple in their home, the gathering was a reminder of the love and support we share as a missionary community, with our tables and chairs serving as the foundation for this special meal.

But the adventures didn't stop there. On the weekend, our Club Aslan program transformed the tables into a vibrant cardboard city. As part of our unit on serving others, we built a toy city complete with a bakery, soccer stadium, stores, restaurant, houses, bank, church and gas station. The little brothers and sisters were invited to play Hot Wheels in the city, their faces lighting up with excitement and creativity as they explored this miniature world we created together.

From potlucks to playtime, our tables and chairs have seen it all this week. They've been a catalyst for community, a symbol of generosity, and a tool for ministry. We are so thankful for the donations that made it possible to acquire these tables and chairs back in 2018, and for the countless ways they have been used to share God's love ever since.
As we reflect on this "week in the life" of our tables and chairs, we are reminded of the incredible impact that simple acts of kindness can have. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve and connect with our community, and we look forward to the many more ways these tables and chairs will be used to bless others in the years to come.
