This week I had the opportunity to speak at a parent-teacher conference at the school in the town where Team Solheim works. Giving this talk was a deeply meaningful experience. I saw a mixture of attention, surprise, and gratitude on the faces of the parents present. Many of them, although somewhat serious at first, opened up as we discussed such a delicate but necessary topic as teenage pregnancy.
The atmosphere was one of respect and trust. At the end, several parents expressed their gratitude for the information and mentioned how timely the talk was. They even insisted on organizing another conference, but one focused on teenagers, as they would benefit from a space where they could receive information and ask questions without being judged.
The most valuable thing was seeing how awareness was raised. I noticed that many people understood that prevention is not only the responsibility of schools or health centers, but that it begins at home. The talk touched hearts and awakened the urgency to talk with their children, to take care of the family environment, and to educate with love and clarity.
In communities like La Esperanza and its surrounding areas, where many taboos and a lack of information about sexuality and adolescent development still exist, these types of talks have a real impact. Seeds of transformation are sown.
I feel this talk was not just another activity, but the beginning of a change of mindset in our community. If we continue speaking with clarity, respect, and love, I am sure many lives can be guided toward a better future.
