Tidings of Joy: Christmas at Club Aslan

Every December, Club Aslan comes alive with a special tradition that brings us all together for some holiday fun. This year was no different as we gathered for our annual Christmas party, which is always a highlight of our month-long preparations filled with handmade decorations, fun games and the spirit of giving.

Handmade Decorations and Crafts

Throughout December, our youth really got into the holiday spirit by crafting up some amazing decorations that turned our space into a festive wonderland. We made colorful paper chains, tree ornaments from recycled tin can lids and even a 3-D ornament that tells the birth story. All of this creativity added so much charm to our celebration and showed just how much effort everyone put in!

A New Tradition of Giving

This year, we introduced a heartwarming new tradition: a gift exchange! The Club provided all the gifts, and we had a blast passing them around the circle according to some crazy instructions. For many of our youth, this was the only gift they received for Christmas, making it even more special. It was such a joy to see everyone get a small surprise gift at the end. What really stood out was how some of our youth decided to re-gift their presents to younger siblings or family members, showing their generous spirit and the values we cherish in our program.

Games, Cookies and Community Spirit

Of course, what’s a Christmas party without some games and cookies? We played a bunch of Christmas-themed games that had everyone laughing and bonding. But the real stars of the show were the homemade sugar cookies! Every year, I whip up 200 cookies using my Aunt Tracy's family recipe. It’s our way of sharing our family traditions with our Honduran friends. Decorating and enjoying these treats together has become a highlight of our celebration every year.

Sharing the Story of Christ's Birth

At the heart of our gathering is the story of the birth of Jesus, which is what Christmas is all about. This year, our fantastic volunteer, Bessy, stepped in at the last minute to share the biblical story with us. Her storytelling really helped everyone reflect on the significance of Christmas and why the miraculous birth of Jesus is such a big deal.

As we keep these traditions alive, we aim to help our youth build a stronger connection to the story of Christ and inspire them to embrace the spirit of giving all year round. The Club Aslan Christmas party is more than just an event; it’s a joyful celebration of faith, hope and love.
