VBS: An Opportunity for Fun

Writer's picture: Sandra MartinezSandra Martinez

Childhood, adolescence and youth are very important stages in the life of each person. They learn from the example of others, but also through what they are taught and, above all, from what they can do and build.

Vacation Bible Schools (VBS) in churches are spaces in which children and young people have the opportunity to do activities, put their skills into practice and can show others what they are capable of doing and feel proud of themselves. It is also a great opportunity to create strong and healthy relationships with their peers in the church and a greater relationship of trust with their leaders.

This month we have provided support to the Baptist Church House of Prayer in the community of Quebrada de Lajas, Intibucá. The importance of churches receiving support in these activities lies in the fact that the people in charge of these ministries are always ready to teach lessons and be a good example for them and many times they do not allow themselves to be funny and get out of the structure that the churches already have. Serving in these events with other people who can have fun with games and activities and at the same time teach them to reflect through these activities shows the leaders of these ministries new and good things that they can continue doing in their churches.

However, the benefit is mutual, as the team of volunteers also learns from the leaders, children and young people, good relationships and positive attitudes are developed and there is a high possibility that people from each church that receives support will want to be part of this wonderful volunteer work.
